A good DJ does not play their own tracks, they play yours at the right moment. The difference between a full dance floor and an empty one rarely comes down to the gear. We sort the DJs here by the styles they actually cover, because an open format DJ and a specialist are not doing the same job.

How to choose your DJ

  1. 1Pick someone who has seen your venueThe acoustics of a barn and those of a glass house have nothing in common.
  2. 2Give a do-not-play list, not a playlistSay above all what you never want to hear. For the rest, let them do their job.
  3. 3Lock in the first songThe first dance sets the tone. It is the one moment you rehearse in your head.
  4. 4Check the venue curfewMany halls stop at two in the morning. That changes how you build the evening.
  5. 5Ask for the extra sound systemSpeeches, ceremony, drinks reception. Three moments that need sound, often forgotten in the quote.

The five questions to ask

  • Have you already worked in our venue?
  • Is the sound system for the cocktail and the speeches included?
  • How do you handle guest requests during the evening?
  • What happens if you are unable to come at the last minute?
  • Until what time do you play, and at what rate beyond that?
