A bare venue and a decorated venue do not tell the same day, and the gap comes down to very little. We sort the decorators here by the surfaces they handle: the table, the seating plan, the outdoors, and sometimes the ceiling.

How to choose your decorator

  1. 1Start with the seating planIt is the first thing guests look for when they walk in, and often the most photographed.
  2. 2Pick two surfaces, not sixA bold ceiling and plain tables beat a bit of decoration everywhere.
  3. 3Check what the venue bansMany venues refuse ceiling fixings or open flame candles.
  4. 4Ask who takes it downTaking it all down at two in the morning is a real line item, rarely included by default.
  5. 5Coordinate with the floristThe two trades meet on the tables. Get them talking before the big day.

The five questions to ask

  • Are setup and takedown included in the price?
  • How long beforehand do you need access to the venue?
  • Do you work with the florist, or do we have to coordinate that ourselves?
  • Is the furniture rented, or does it belong to you?
  • What happens if the venue refuses a fixing we had planned?

From 500 € for the tables alone to 4 000 € and more for full decoration including ceiling and outdoors.

Decorator or florist?

The two meet on the tables. The florist brings the greenery, the decorator brings the staging. Several studios do both.

When should you book?

6 months ahead, once the venue is known. Decoration is designed for a specific place, never in the abstract.

Is the takedown included?

Rarely. That is the first question to ask, because it is the one that moves the quote.
